Yes, the Vac-AlertTM Model VA-2000 meets or exceeds material and performance requirements for a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS). Vac–Alert products are compliant with The 2015 ISPSC International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, ANSI/PHTA/ICC-7 2020 American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance In Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins and the ASTM F2387 Manufactured Safety Vacuum Release Systems (SVRS) for Swimming Pools, Spas and Hot Tubs and Catch Basins. The International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC) both mandate “three layers of protection.” IBC 3109.5 and IRC AG 106 require all pools and spas (regardless of water depth) to be equipped with an accepted method for vacuum relief. These codes call for devises that meet ASME A112.19.17 standards to provide this vacuum relief. The vast majority of state and local governments utilize the IBC and the IRC codes as models for their own codes.

Yes, the Model VA-2000 can be installed on any main drain suction line that does not have a suction lift of more than three feet. There are two models available which are suitable for both existing and new construction applications. The Model VA-2000L is designed for suction lift applications, where the circulating or jet pump is located above the water surface level in a pool or spa. The Model VA-2000S is designed for submerged suction applications, where the circulating or jet pump is located below the water surface level in a pool or spa. For pumps operating 24/7 we recommend you install the VA-2000S (even if it is a lift application situation.
A spring loaded piston located in the SVRS unit forms a seal to prevent air entering the suction system during normal operation. Should a sudden rise in vacuum occur due to an entrapment event, the piston is forced open and the air seal is broken. Under this condition, outside air is allowed to enter the suction side of the pump causing the pump to cavitate, thereby releasing the vacuum.
The Model VA-2000 requires no maintenance. The unit’s durable PVC, Viton, EPDM, and Type 316 Stainless Steel construction insures long life and reliable service. The Model VA-2000 is an all-mechanical, non-electrical device which simplifies the installation and operation of the unit. The Model VA-2000 is backed by a 3-year limited warranty.
Yes, it is recommended that one SVRS unit be installed for each circulating or jet pump that draws from a dedicated main drain suction line.
No, the Model VA-2000L is designed for suction lift applications and is equipped with a spring loaded check valve located at the base of the unit. This check valve insures a steady stream of water to the pump, with enough water flow to protect the pump from damage. When the SVRS is locked in the vented or open position, the pump will operate in a mixed air/water flow condition until the unit is manually reset. Once reset, the Model VA-2000 will enable the pump to establish full prime.
The Model VA-2000L and VA-2000S are both all-mechanical SVRS units. They are easily installed, adjusted and tested with standard tools and supplies. The SVRS unit is mounted vertically, above or off a tee installed in the suction line between the main drain(s) and the circulating or jet pump. The SVRS should be located at the equipment pad, no more than five (5) feet (when possible) from the pump suction. The unit is equipped with a 1.5” PVC pipe socket connection, which can be adapted to any suction line pipe size. Since the SVRS is an air passageway only, the unit does not convey water, and therefore can be installed on small or large pipe sizes. Most installations can be completed in less than thirty (30) minutes. A field installation guide is included with each Model VA-2000 SVRS unit.
The Model VA-2000 can be either valve or mat tested to ensure the SVRS is working properly. Monthly testing is recommended during swimming season.
